Overview
Von Willebrand Disease
Von Willebrand disease is an inherited bleeding disorder caused by reduced amounts or abnormal function of von Willebrand factor, a protein that helps blood clot properly. People with the condition may bruise easily or experience prolonged nosebleeds, bleeding after injuries, or excessive bleeding after surgery or dental procedures. Menstrual bleeding may also be unusually heavy or prolonged. Severity varies considerably among the different types of the disorder.
Adrenal Insufficiency
Adrenal insufficiency is a condition in which the adrenal glands do not produce enough hormones needed for normal body function. It may result from problems affecting the adrenal glands themselves or from disorders involving the pituitary or other parts of the hormone-regulating system. Symptoms can develop gradually and may include fatigue, weakness, weight loss, and low blood pressure.

Von Willebrand Disease
Diagnosis can be challenging because von Willebrand factor levels and bleeding symptoms can vary over time. Evaluation usually includes a personal and family bleeding history together with blood tests. Testing may measure von Willebrand factor amount and activity, factor VIII levels, platelet function, and related clotting measures. Repeated or specialized testing may sometimes be necessary to distinguish von Willebrand disease from other causes of abnormal bleeding.
Adrenal Insufficiency
Diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency is based on symptoms, medical history, physical examination, and blood tests measuring adrenal hormones. Testing may show low cortisol or abnormal electrolyte levels. An ACTH stimulation test can assess adrenal response. Depending on the suspected cause, additional hormone tests, antibody testing, and imaging such as CT or MRI may be used.
Prevention
Von Willebrand Disease
Inherited von Willebrand disease cannot currently be prevented because it results from genetic changes passed through families. People with a family history can discuss genetic counseling and appropriate testing with healthcare professionals. Individuals who have been diagnosed should inform healthcare providers before surgery, dental procedures, or other invasive procedures so bleeding risk can be considered. Recognizing abnormal bleeding early can help reduce complications and improve planning for medical care.
Adrenal Insufficiency
Adrenal insufficiency cannot always be prevented because it may result from autoimmune disease or other conditions that cannot be avoided. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can reduce the risk of complications. People taking medicines that may affect adrenal function should follow medical guidance and should not change long-term treatment without professional advice.
Risk Factors
Von Willebrand Disease
A family history of von Willebrand disease or another inherited bleeding disorder is an important risk factor. The condition can be inherited in different patterns depending on the specific type. People with affected relatives may therefore have an increased likelihood of carrying a disease-causing genetic variant. Symptoms can vary even among family members, so a person with a relatively mild bleeding history may still have the condition.
Adrenal Insufficiency
Risk factors for adrenal insufficiency depend on whether the problem originates in the adrenal glands, pituitary gland, or another part of the hormone-regulating system. Autoimmune disorders and chronic illnesses may increase risk. Certain infections, prolonged use of some medicines, previous surgery, bleeding, tumors, or other conditions affecting hormone production may also contribute.
