Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. Instead of remaining relatively straight when viewed from the front or back, the spine may curve into a C or S shape and may also rotate. Scoliosis can develop during childhood or adolescence and may remain mild or become more pronounced during periods of rapid growth. Some forms occur because of known conditions, while the cause of many cases is not identified.

Dermatitis refers to inflammation of the skin that commonly causes itching, redness, dryness, irritation, or a rash. Different types can develop because of allergens, irritants, genetic susceptibility, or immune reactions. Contact with substances such as soaps, detergents, chemicals, cosmetics, or metals may cause or worsen some forms, while other forms are associated with a weakened skin barrier.

Diagnosis
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is evaluated with a physical examination and assessment of the shape and alignment of the spine. A forward-bending examination can reveal differences in shoulder or hip height and spinal curvature. Spinal X-rays are commonly used to confirm the curve and measure its severity. Depending on the suspected cause and findings, additional imaging such as MRI or CT may be considered to examine the spine and surrounding structures.
Dermatitis
Diagnosis of dermatitis generally involves a detailed medical history and examination of the skin. A healthcare professional may ask about symptoms, timing, exposures, products used on the skin, occupation, allergies, and previous skin conditions. Allergy testing or patch testing may be considered when allergic contact dermatitis is suspected. A skin biopsy may occasionally be used when the diagnosis remains uncertain.
Prevention

Most cases of idiopathic scoliosis cannot be prevented because their exact cause is unknown. Early recognition during childhood and adolescence can help identify curves that may worsen during growth. Regular examinations when a spinal curvature is suspected allow healthcare professionals to monitor changes. Congenital and neuromuscular forms are related to underlying conditions and therefore cannot generally be prevented through lifestyle measures. Appropriate management of associated disorders may help reduce complications.
Dermatitis
Avoiding known skin irritants and allergens can help reduce dermatitis flare-ups. Use gentle skin-care products, avoid unnecessary exposure to harsh soaps and chemicals, and maintain adequate skin hydration to support the skin barrier. Protective measures may be useful when occupational exposure to irritants is unavoidable. Identifying and avoiding personal triggers can be particularly helpful for people with recurrent dermatitis.
Risk Factors
Scoliosis
Risk factors depend on the type of scoliosis. Idiopathic scoliosis commonly appears during childhood or adolescence and is more frequently diagnosed in girls. A family history may increase susceptibility. Congenital abnormalities of the spine can increase the risk of congenital scoliosis, while conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and spina bifida can contribute to neuromuscular scoliosis. Rapid growth can allow an existing curve to progress.
Dermatitis
Risk factors for dermatitis depend on the type. A personal or family history of allergies, asthma, or eczema can increase susceptibility to atopic dermatitis. Frequent exposure to soaps, detergents, chemicals, solvents, metals, cosmetics, plants, or other irritants can contribute to contact dermatitis. Dry skin, repeated hand washing, occupational exposure, and a weakened skin barrier may also increase risk.
