Overview

Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin disorder that causes skin cells to build up more rapidly than normal, producing areas of thickened, inflamed, scaly, or itchy skin. It can affect different parts of the body and may also involve the nails or joints. Symptoms often occur in episodes called flares, with periods when the condition becomes less active.
Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer is a malignant growth that develops from cells lining the urinary bladder. The most common warning sign is blood in the urine, which may be visible or detected only by testing. Some people may also experience increased urinary frequency, urgency, burning, or discomfort. Bladder cancer can remain limited to the inner layers of the bladder or grow deeper into the bladder wall and surrounding tissues. Early evaluation of unexplained urinary bleeding is important because the disease may be easier to treat when detected earlier.

Diagnosis

Psoriasis
Psoriasis is usually diagnosed clinically from the appearance and distribution of the skin lesions together with the medical history. A healthcare professional examines areas of affected skin and may ask about symptoms, previous episodes, family history, and possible triggers. A skin biopsy may sometimes be performed when the diagnosis is uncertain or another skin condition needs to be excluded.
Bladder Cancer
Evaluation of suspected bladder cancer may include urinalysis and other urine-based tests, imaging of the urinary tract, and cystoscopy, in which the inside of the bladder is examined with a small camera. If a suspicious area is identified, tissue obtained during cystoscopy is examined by a pathologist to establish whether cancer is present and to determine its characteristics. Additional imaging may be used to assess the bladder wall, nearby structures, lymph nodes, or distant areas when more advanced disease is suspected.

Prevention

Psoriasis
Psoriasis cannot always be prevented because genetic and immune factors play an important role. Avoiding known personal triggers may help reduce flares. Protecting the skin from injury, managing stress, avoiding smoking, following prescribed treatment, and maintaining overall health may help control symptoms. Regular medical care can also help identify and manage associated problems.
Bladder Cancer
Avoiding tobacco is one of the most important preventable measures for reducing bladder cancer risk. People who work with chemicals associated with bladder cancer should follow workplace exposure controls and use appropriate protective equipment. Adequate hydration may support normal urinary health, although it does not eliminate cancer risk. Persistent or unexplained blood in the urine should be evaluated promptly, even when it occurs without pain, because early investigation can help identify bladder disease at an earlier stage.

Risk Factors

Psoriasis
Psoriasis can occur in anyone, but susceptibility is greater when there is a family history of the condition. Factors that may trigger or worsen flares include infections such as strep throat, injury or irritation of the skin, stress, smoking, certain medicines, and extremes of sun exposure. A weakened immune system may also be associated with more severe disease in some people.
Bladder Cancer
Important risk factors include cigarette smoking, increasing age, certain occupational exposures to chemicals, previous pelvic radiation, exposure to some chemotherapy medicines, chronic bladder irritation, and certain inherited conditions. A history of bladder cancer also increases the likelihood of recurrence. Long-term exposure to some workplace chemicals may be relevant in occupations involving dyes, rubber, leather, textiles, paints, or related industrial materials.
