Overview
Leptospirosis
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease caused by Leptospira bacteria. The bacteria can be present in water or soil contaminated with urine from infected animals. People may become infected when contaminated water or soil contacts broken skin or mucous membranes. Illness can range from a mild febrile infection to a severe disease affecting the kidneys, liver, lungs, or other organs. Symptoms may appear several days to weeks after exposure.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition involving persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning. Symptoms can affect school, work, relationships, organization, and time management. ADHD commonly begins during childhood, although some people are diagnosed later when demands increase or symptoms become more noticeable.

GeneticsDiagnosis
Leptospirosis
Diagnosis is based on symptoms, exposure history, physical examination, and laboratory testing. Because early symptoms can resemble other infections, information about recent contact with contaminated water, soil, or animals is important. Blood or urine tests can detect evidence of Leptospira infection, and additional laboratory testing may be performed depending on the stage of illness. Kidney and liver function tests and other blood tests may help assess disease severity and complications.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Diagnosis of ADHD involves a comprehensive assessment rather than a single laboratory or imaging test. A clinician considers the pattern, duration, severity, and impact of symptoms and determines whether they occur in more than one setting. Information from the individual, family members, teachers, or other relevant observers may be useful, especially for children. The assessment also considers alternative explanations and coexisting conditions.
Prevention
Leptospirosis
Reducing contact with potentially contaminated water and soil is an important way to prevent leptospirosis. People working or participating in recreational activities in areas where exposure is possible should use appropriate protective clothing and footwear and cover cuts or abrasions. Avoiding contact with potentially contaminated water and controlling rodents around homes can reduce exposure. Pets and livestock should receive appropriate veterinary care, and people with high-risk occupational exposure should follow recommended protective measures.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
There is no established way to completely prevent ADHD because genetic and developmental factors play important roles. Supporting healthy pregnancy and early childhood development and reducing avoidable prenatal risks are generally beneficial for child health. Early recognition of persistent difficulties can allow appropriate educational, behavioral, and clinical support. Establishing predictable routines, sleep habits, organizational strategies, and supportive environments can help reduce functional difficulties.
Risk Factors
Leptospirosis
Risk increases with exposure to freshwater or soil that may be contaminated with animal urine, particularly in warm climates. Occupational risk can occur among farmers, ranchers, veterinarians, sewage workers, agricultural workers, animal handlers, and others who work around animals or contaminated environments. Recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, or biking in potentially contaminated areas can also increase exposure. Contact with infected pets, livestock, or rodents may contribute.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Risk factors and associated features include a family history of ADHD, childhood developmental differences, and certain prenatal or early-life factors. Symptoms may become more noticeable when academic, occupational, or organizational demands increase. Coexisting learning, behavioral, emotional, or sleep difficulties can complicate the presentation. Having one risk factor does not mean that a person will develop ADHD, and the condition can occur without an obvious identifiable risk factor.
