Overview

Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic skin condition that causes painful, recurrent lumps, nodules, and abscesses, usually in areas where skin rubs together such as the armpits, groin, buttocks, or under the breasts. Lesions may drain pus and heal with scars or tunnels under the skin. The condition often begins after puberty and may persist or recur over time.
Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer is a cancer that develops in the tissues of a testicle. It most often affects younger and middle-aged men and may first appear as a painless lump, swelling, enlargement, heaviness, or change in the size or feel of a testicle. Most testicular cancers can be treated successfully, particularly when detected and treated at an early stage.

Diagnosis

Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Diagnosis is usually based on the medical history, the pattern and location of recurrent skin lesions, and physical examination. There is no single test that confirms hidradenitis suppurativa. A healthcare professional may examine nodules, abscesses, scars, and draining areas and may collect a sample of pus or affected tissue when another infection or diagnosis needs to be considered.
Testicular Cancer
Evaluation usually begins with a medical history and examination of the testicles and scrotum. Scrotal ultrasound can help identify and characterize a testicular mass. Blood tests may measure tumor markers that can support diagnosis and help assess the disease. Additional imaging, such as CT scans, may be used to determine whether cancer has spread. Definitive diagnosis is generally established through surgical evaluation and examination of the affected tissue.

Prevention

Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa cannot always be prevented, but some measures may reduce irritation and flare-ups. Maintaining a healthy weight when appropriate, avoiding smoking, wearing loose-fitting clothing, reducing friction, and avoiding unnecessary skin injury may help. Keeping regular medical follow-up is important when lesions recur or complications such as scarring develop.
Testicular Cancer
There is no reliable way to prevent most cases of testicular cancer because many risk factors cannot be changed. People with an undescended testicle or other known risk factors should follow appropriate medical advice. Being familiar with the normal appearance and feel of the testicles can help a person notice changes such as a new lump, swelling, or enlargement and seek medical evaluation promptly.

Risk Factors

Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa is more common after puberty and occurs more often in women and people with a family history of the condition. Overweight or obesity and smoking are associated with increased risk and may also be linked with more severe disease. Friction, heat, and repeated skin injury may aggravate symptoms in some people.
Testicular Cancer
Risk is increased by an undescended testicle, particularly when it was not corrected early, as well as a previous history of testicular cancer. A family history of testicular cancer and certain developmental or genetic conditions may also increase risk. Testicular cancer is most common in younger and middle-aged men, although it can occur at other ages.
