Hay Fever
Hay fever, also called pollen allergy or seasonal allergic rhinitis, occurs when the immune system reacts to airborne allergens such as pollen. It commonly causes sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, itching of the eyes, nose or throat, watery eyes, coughing, and postnasal drainage. Symptoms may occur during seasons when trees, grasses, or weeds release pollen into the air.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that commonly causes fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, and a characteristic widespread rash. The illness can cause complications involving the lungs, ears, brain, or other organs, particularly in young children and people with weakened immunity. Measles spreads readily through respiratory particles and can remain infectious in indoor environments after an infected person has left. Vaccination provides highly effective protection.

Hay fever is usually diagnosed from the pattern of symptoms, their seasonal timing, and a physical examination. The healthcare provider may examine the nose, eyes, throat, and other areas affected by allergies. When the specific allergen is unclear or symptoms are difficult to control, allergy testing may be performed using skin tests or blood tests to identify relevant triggers.

Measles is suspected when a person has fever and the characteristic respiratory symptoms followed by a widespread rash, particularly when there has been a known exposure or inadequate immunity. Laboratory testing is used to confirm many suspected cases, often with molecular testing or serologic methods. Because measles is highly contagious, suspected cases may require prompt public health notification and appropriate infection-control measures while diagnostic evaluation is completed.

During periods of high pollen, keeping windows closed, reducing outdoor exposure, and changing clothes after spending time outside may help. Showering can remove pollen from the skin and hair. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent measles. Maintaining recommended vaccination according to the local immunization schedule helps protect both individuals and communities. During outbreaks or after significant exposure, public health authorities may recommend additional measures for susceptible people. Good respiratory hygiene and avoiding close contact with infected individuals can reduce transmission, although vaccination provides much stronger protection than these measures alone.

Risk of severe complications is higher among young children, pregnant people, adults with certain health conditions, and people with weakened immune systems. International travel or exposure during outbreaks can increase the likelihood of encountering the virus. High population immunity substantially limits transmission and outbreaks.
