Overview
Diabetic Nephropathy
Diabetic nephropathy, also called diabetic kidney disease, is kidney damage that develops as a complication of diabetes. Persistently high blood glucose and elevated blood pressure can damage the small blood vessels and filtering structures of the kidneys over time. Early kidney disease may cause few or no symptoms, so urine and blood testing are important for people with diabetes. As kidney function declines, protein may appear in the urine and waste products can accumulate in the blood. Early detection and management can slow progression and reduce complications.
Stomach Cancer
Stomach cancer is a malignant tumor arising from the lining of the stomach. It may develop gradually and can cause indigestion, abdominal discomfort, reduced appetite, nausea, vomiting, difficulty eating, or unexplained weight loss. Early disease may produce few or nonspecific symptoms, so persistent digestive symptoms require appropriate medical evaluation.

Diabetic Nephropathy
Diabetic nephropathy is evaluated with tests that measure kidney function and detect albumin or other protein in the urine. Blood testing commonly includes serum creatinine and estimation of glomerular filtration rate. Urine albumin testing can identify early kidney damage before substantial loss of filtration occurs. Blood pressure measurement and assessment of diabetes control are also important. Repeated abnormal results may be needed to confirm persistent kidney involvement and distinguish diabetic kidney disease from temporary changes or other kidney disorders.
Stomach Cancer
Diagnosis generally involves upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, during which the stomach lining can be examined directly and a biopsy can be taken for microscopic analysis. Imaging such as CT scans may be used to determine the extent of disease. Additional tests may be performed to assess tumor characteristics and possible spread.
Prevention
Diabetic Nephropathy
The risk of diabetic kidney disease can be reduced by maintaining good long-term blood glucose control and managing blood pressure. Regular kidney screening with urine albumin and blood tests allows early changes to be detected. Avoiding smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, following an appropriate diet, and taking prescribed medicines consistently can support kidney health. People with diabetes should discuss kidney monitoring with their healthcare team and avoid unnecessary medicines or supplements that may adversely affect kidney function.
Stomach Cancer
Risk reduction includes avoiding tobacco, maintaining a balanced diet with adequate fruits and vegetables, limiting heavily salted, smoked, or preserved foods, and identifying and treating Helicobacter pylori infection when appropriate. People with significant inherited or medical risk factors should follow individualized medical advice regarding surveillance.
Risk Factors
Diabetic Nephropathy
Risk of diabetic nephropathy increases with longer duration of diabetes and poor long-term blood glucose control. High blood pressure substantially increases the likelihood and progression of kidney damage. Other contributing factors include smoking, abnormal blood lipid levels, family history of diabetic kidney disease, and certain cardiovascular risk factors. Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can cause kidney disease. Regular monitoring is particularly important because kidney damage may develop without obvious symptoms.
Stomach Cancer
Risk factors include Helicobacter pylori infection, chronic gastritis, smoking, family history, certain inherited cancer syndromes, increasing age, diets high in heavily salted or preserved foods, and previous stomach surgery or certain precancerous stomach conditions.
